Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that causes numbness, tingling, and other symptoms in the hand and arm. The cause lies in the compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel, a narrow passageway on the palm side of your wrist.
Cause?
The syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve: anything that squeezes or irritates the median nerve in the carpal tunnel space may lead to that presentation. Prolonged keyboard-related activities are likely to be predisposing factors.
Pregnancy can affect every part of your body, including your hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome is commonly seen in pregnancy. There are several causes for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in pregnancy, for example, Pregnancy Swelling – During pregnancy, the body retains more fluid which often causes swelling mainly hands and feet. The build-up of fluid around the wrist causes compression of the nerves running through the carpal tunnel resulting in a change of sensation in the hand and fingers.
